HMGB1是一种核蛋白,其由坏死细胞被动释放,由凋亡细胞保留,并由炎症细胞主动分泌(Dumitriu等人,HMGB1:从内部引导免疫。Trends Immunol 2005,26:381-7)。HMGB1对生命至关重要:HMGB1基因敲除小鼠出生后不久死亡。
HMGB1作为运动细胞的化学引诱剂和细胞因子的诱导剂的两种不同活性被归因于不同的生物化学形式。还原的HMGB1(具有化学引诱活性的形式)被还原;二硫化物HMGB1包含C23和C45之间的二硫键(完整注释:HMGB1C23-C45C106h–Antoine J.等人(2014)。Mol-Med)。
二硫化物HMGB1可诱导单核细胞和其他炎症细胞产生细胞因子和趋化因子(Venereau等人,2012)。
